What exactly does the space cleanup fix?
The "Multiple spaces" option replaces runs of spaces, every tab and non-breaking spaces with a single regular space. The "Leading and trailing spaces" box strips the edge spaces from each line. Together they are the perfect cleanup after copying and pasting from a PDF or a website.
Does accent removal handle letters like é, ñ and ü?
Yes. Accented letters are converted to their base form (é becomes e, ñ becomes n, ü becomes u) and the œ and æ ligatures found in some loanwords are expanded to oe and ae, so "café" becomes "cafe" and "naïve" becomes "naive".
