Mapping table

Each Latin key produces its Ukrainian letter. Compound sounds are written with two letters. Watch out: y gives и, i gives і, h gives г and g gives ґ.

To write Київ, type K y y i v: the first y gives и, the second y gives an и that the following i turns into ї. Typing K y i v gives Кїв, because y followed by i always forms the digraph ї.

Write in Ukrainian from any computer

No need to install a keyboard layout or change your system settings: this Ukrainian keyboard runs entirely in your browser. The phonetic transliteration follows the intuitive spelling of romanized Ukrainian: "dyakuyu" becomes "дякую", "khlib" becomes "хліб", "Ukrayina" is written "Україна". The four letters unique to Ukrainian are all within reach: і with the i key, ї with yi, є with ye or q, and ґ with g. For the tricky cases, the clickable keyboard is right there.

Your text stays in your browser, in line with our privacy policy. Once your text is written, count it with the word counter or tidy it up with the text cleaner. Other scripts have their keyboards too: Russian, Greek, Arabic and Korean.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type Ukrainian without a Cyrillic keyboard?

Spell the sound of the word with your regular keys: the phonetic transliteration converts each letter as you type. Type "pryvit" and the text box shows "привіт"; "dyakuyu" becomes "дякую". Compound sounds are written with two letters: sh gives ш, ch gives ч, yi gives ї, ya gives я.

How is it different from the Russian keyboard?

The Ukrainian alphabet has letters of its own: і (type i), ї (type yi), є (type ye or q) and ґ (type g). The letter и is produced with y, and h gives г, pronounced like a breathy h. The Russian letters ы, э and ъ do not exist in Ukrainian.

Is my Ukrainian text sent to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser: nothing is transmitted or stored. Then copy your text into an email, a search engine or a messaging app with a single click on Copy.
