Comparing two versions of a contract, an article or a list with the naked eye is the surest way to miss a change. This tool lines up both texts and highlights every difference: whatever disappeared from the original version shows up in red, whatever was added shows up in green. The similarity score tells you at a glance how extensive the revision is.
The comparison is exact down to the line: to avoid false differences caused by stray spaces, run your texts through the text cleaner first. And if the two versions differ in letter case, standardize it beforehand with the uppercase-lowercase converter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I read the comparison result?
Lines preceded by a minus sign, on a red background, exist in the original text but not in the new one: these are the deletions. Lines preceded by a plus sign, on a green background, are the additions in the new text. Unmarked lines are shared by both versions.
How is the similarity score calculated?
The score counts each shared line twice (once per text) and divides that total by the combined number of lines in both texts, following the Dice coefficient. Two identical texts therefore score 100%; two texts with no line in common score 0%.
Can I compare confidential documents?
Yes. The comparison runs entirely in your browser: neither text is ever sent to or stored on a server. Contracts, manuscripts and reports can be compared in complete privacy.
